Why We Take Photos

GOLD workshops are free, and they stay free because funders, grantmakers, and donors can see the work happening. Photographs of a full classroom do more to explain what we do than any paragraph we could write. They also help other older adults picture themselves in the room, which is often the thing that gets someone to sign up.

What We Photograph

At in-person workshops and events, a GOLD staff member or volunteer may take photographs or video. This is usually wide shots of the room, people working at their devices, and candid moments during the workshop.

How We Use Them

• On our website and in our newsletter
• On GOLD social media accounts
• In printed flyers and materials for upcoming workshops
• In reports to funders, grantmakers, and partner organizations
• In grant applications and fundraising materials

Your Consent

By attending a GOLD workshop or event, you consent to being photographed or recorded, and to GOLD using those images and recordings for the purposes described above, without payment.

GOLD owns the photographs and video it takes. You are welcome to ask us for a copy of a picture you are in, and we're usually happy to send it.

If You'd Rather Not Be Photographed

Tell us. There are three easy ways, and none of them require a reason:

• Check the box on the workshop sign-up form when you register
• Tell whoever is at the check-in table when you arrive
• Email hello@live-gold.org before the workshop

We'll make sure you're not in the shots. You keep your seat, your materials, and everything else about the workshop. Nobody will make it awkward.

What We Won't Do Without Asking You First

Some uses go beyond a photo of a classroom, and for those we come back and ask you directly, every time:

• Publishing your photograph together with your full name
• Connecting your photograph to anything about your health, your finances, or a scam you told us about
• Featuring you individually in a fundraising appeal or an advertisement
• Anything you shared with us in confidence

Written quotes are handled separately. After a workshop we ask, on the feedback form, whether we may share your words, and whether to use your first name or keep it anonymous. We follow whatever you pick there.

Online Workshops

We do not record our Zoom workshops. Our meetings are created with recording switched off.

If we ever plan to record a session, we will say so in the invitation email and announce it at the start of the class, and Zoom will show you its own notice before recording begins. You are always welcome to keep your camera off, and you can change your Zoom display name to whatever you like.

Workshops at Partner Locations

Many of our workshops happen at libraries, senior centers, rehabilitation centers, and healthcare partners. Those organizations have their own photography rules, and their rules come first in their buildings. At some partner sites we do not photograph attendees at all. If you have a question about a specific location, ask us or ask the staff there.

Asking Us to Remove a Photo

If a photo of you is already published and you want it taken down, email hello@live-gold.org. We'll remove it from our website and our own social media within 30 days. We'll also stop using it going forward. We can't always claw back something already printed or already sent to a funder, but we will not use it again.

Children

GOLD programs serve adults. On the rare occasion a family member under 18 attends with a participant, we do not photograph them without a parent or guardian saying yes first.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top tells you when we last did.
