Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before joining a GOLD workshop. Still have a question? Get in touch.

Are GOLD workshops really free?

Yes. Every GOLD workshop is completely free to attend. GOLD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded by grants, partners, and donations, so there is never a fee to join a class or event.

Who are the workshops for?

GOLD is designed for adults 50 and older who want to build confidence with technology, stay safe online, and live healthier, more connected lives. No experience is needed, and all skill levels are welcome.

Do I need to be “good with computers” to attend?

Not at all. Our workshops are hands-on and beginner-friendly, taught in plain English at a relaxed pace. Most people come in feeling unsure and leave with practical skills they can use right away.

Where are workshops held?

GOLD holds in-person workshops at senior centers, libraries, residential communities, and faith and healthcare partners across the Raleigh/Triangle area of North Carolina. Many workshops are also offered online via Zoom so you can join from home.

What topics do you cover?

Workshops cover digital health tools like MyChart, scam and fraud prevention, AI made simple, everyday device skills for phones and tablets, and staying connected with family and community.

Do I need to bring my own device?

You are welcome to bring your own phone, tablet, or laptop so you can practice on the device you use at home. If you do not have one, we have loaner devices available at in-person workshops.

How do I sign up for a workshop?

Browse upcoming workshops on the GOLD website and reserve your spot right on the workshop page. Some workshops hosted with a partner register through that partner's page, which is linked from the workshop details.

How can I bring GOLD to my community or partner with you?

GOLD partners with senior centers, healthcare systems, libraries, faith communities, foundations, and corporate teams to bring free workshops to older adults. Reach out through the Get Involved or Contact page, or email hello@live-gold.org.
