Growing Older Living Digitally
Your doctor, your bank, your pharmacy, your family. They all moved onto a screen, and the instructions never came with them. We teach the exact tasks, hands on, using the device you already own, in communities across North Carolina and online.
Access is not the same as ability. Most people who come to us are not missing a device. They are missing the confidence that they can do it themselves. That is the part we restore, and it is the part that lasts: once someone believes they can, they keep going without us.

In your community or online. Bring the device you use, practice the task you came for, and leave able to repeat it at home.

Bring the device you actually use. Our workshops are built to be a safe place to try, with guidance, so you leave feeling confident doing the task yourself rather than having watched someone else do it.

What to expect:
Space is limited, so please register ahead of time. If we reach capacity we will add you to the waitlist and let you know if a spot opens.
What we teach
Not general computer lessons. The real tasks that everyday life now runs on, taught on the device you brought.
Digital health
Refilling a prescription, booking an appointment, reading a result. The things that used to mean a phone call and a wait.
Scam defense
Stop, Confirm, Avoid sharing, Make a report. Four steps, practiced on the messages going around right now.
AI readiness
What these tools can actually do for you day to day, and how to ask so the answer comes back useful.
And much more
We keep finding new barriers in the communities we work in, and what we teach changes to match. The goal is the same every time: everyone leaves feeling confident, safe, and independent.
What it adds up to
Most of our work is not on this calendar. Closed sessions, private programs run for a single community, health system, or employer, are not published here. The public schedule is a fraction of what we deliver.
From participant surveys and program records kept since 2025, including closed sessions not listed on this site. A full methodology is in preparation; funders and partners can request the underlying data now.
The full pictureFor families
How do you build their confidence instead of quietly replacing it? How do you stay useful without becoming the person who does it for them? The order we would go in, and which things genuinely matter first.
For familiesFor organizations
We help health systems, health plans, and community organizations with digital adoption among older adults. Not access, which most of them already provide. Adoption, which is where the numbers stall.
How it worksI leave class feeling smarter each time. Priceless!

Most GOLD workshops are offered at no cost to you, and you will never be sold anything at one. GOLD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded by grants, partners, and donations, which is what keeps it that way. Where a workshop does carry a fee, it is stated on the listing before you register, so you always know before you sign up.
GOLD is designed for adults 50 and older who want to build confidence with technology, stay safe online, and live healthier, more connected lives. No experience is needed, and all skill levels are welcome.
Not at all. Our workshops are hands-on and beginner-friendly, taught in plain English at a relaxed pace. Most people come in feeling unsure and leave with practical skills they can use right away.
GOLD holds in-person workshops at senior centers, libraries, residential communities, and faith and healthcare partners across the Raleigh/Triangle area of North Carolina. Many workshops are also offered online via Zoom so you can join from home.
Workshops cover digital health tools like MyChart, scam and fraud prevention, AI made simple, everyday device skills for phones and tablets, and staying connected with family and community.
For Funders & Partners
